Africa’s First High-Speed Line Gets Advanced Weighing Technology. Weighwell Engineering Ltd installed a train weighing system in Morocco for Africa’s pioneering high-speed rail. This technology ensures safety and meets specific operational needs effectively.
Experts chose the PTW 500-VB2X because it provides a lightweight and portable solution for users. Additionally, its customizable ptwX software displays weighing data and adapts to requirements easily.
This advanced technology detects weight imbalances and enhances safety for train operations daily. It also delivers accurate measurements for wheels, axles, and total vehicle weight consistently.
Technicians deployed the static system in Tangiers, Morocco, for immediate operational use now. Initially, it will measure Alstom TGV Duplex trains and support maintenance efforts there. Société Marocaine de Maintenance oversees the trains under a $183.75 million, 15-year deal. This 60:40 partnership between ONCF and SNCF ensures quality upkeep for the fleet.
The trains will operate mainly between Tangiers and Casablanca, serving millions of passengers. Experts predict this route will handle 10 million travelers yearly and save time.
Travelers can enjoy a quick trip of just over two hours between these cities. Consequently, this efficiency boosts connectivity and attracts more passengers to the route.
